Albanian households will see cheaper electricity bills from today as the government slashes tariffs by 10.5%.
The new rate drops from 9.5 leks to 8.5 leks per kilowatt-hour (kWh), applying to usage up to 700 kWh per month. Anything above that will still be charged at 9.5 leks per kWh.
Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Belinda Balluku hailed the move, which was approved by the Energy Regulatory Authority (ERE) on 8 January. The change will be reflected in February’s bills, payable in March, and will stay in place until 31 December 2025.
Officials say the cut will ease pressure on struggling households, but some are asking whether more relief is needed.
