Kosovo’s citizens abroad have kicked off voting for the February 9 parliamentary elections, with polls open at embassies across Europe and the U.S. Voting began at 7 a.m. in Europe, while the U.S. and Canada opened at 1 p.m. local time.
This is the first time the diaspora can vote in person at Kosovo’s embassies and consulates—43 polling stations in 19 countries worldwide are ready for action. A total of 20,324 voters have signed up for the historic vote, which could shape Kosovo’s future.
The race for 120 parliamentary seats includes 28 political parties and one independent. Kosovo’s current PM, Albin Kurti, hopes to stay in power after the elections.
With over 2 million eligible voters, these are the first regular elections in Kosovo since it declared independence in 2008.
