The Albanian government has decided to extend the validity of ID cards and biometric passports for around 500,000 Albanians living abroad.
The new deadline moves from May 11 to May 31, 2025, allowing expats to vote in the upcoming general elections.
The Foreign Ministry said all Albanian citizens will be able to vote by registering on the Central Election Commission’s (KQZ) electronic platform.
Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha called it a crucial move.
“This will solve the issue quickly. About half a million Albanians have expired ID cards,” he said.
Albania’s parliamentary elections will take place on May 11, 2025, and for the first time, expats will be able to cast their votes.
