The US Embassy in Kosovo has voiced alarm over the sudden and uncoordinated closure of Serbian-run Social Work Centers in northern Kosovo, calling it a reckless move that threatens Kosovo’s future in Europe. The embassy warned that such actions endanger vital relations between Kosovo and its international partners.
A day after the US statement, the European Union also intervened, urging Kosovo not to shut down these services and to address the issue at the negotiating table with Serbia. A spokesperson for the European Commission confirmed that the EU is monitoring the situation closely, in light of Kosovo Police’s recent operations.
The EU stressed that neither Serbian-backed health and education institutions nor social services should be dismantled, as they provide essential support to thousands of citizens.
Kosovo’s authorities acted on Friday, closing four facilities suspected of being involved in illegal activities, including document falsification related to the February 9 elections.
The situation continues to escalate, with calls for dialogue and clarity on the future of these centers.
