Kosovo police have arrested a man at the Jarinjë border crossing on suspicions of war crimes committed during the 1999 Kosovo War. The suspect, identified as D.R., is accused of committing crimes against civilians in the Gjakova region between May 7 and 10, 1999, according to local media reports.
Authorities say the suspect was part of an organized group, working as an official in Serbian police units at the time. He was taken to the Kosovo Police, where he was questioned with his lawyer present. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has detained him for 48 hours.
The arrest has sparked reactions from the Serbian List party in Kosovo, who claim the 75-year-old man was only returning to renew his documents. The party insists he was never involved in any military group and is in poor health, suffering from dementia, which has raised concerns among his family.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to hold individuals accountable for war crimes from the 1999 conflict, despite the passage of time.
