The UK and Ireland are bracing for severe weather as Storm Eowyn smashes into cities, bringing winds of up to 183 km/h. The storm has already shattered records in the Republic of Ireland, and Scotland is on high alert for more damage.
Authorities are urging people across the UK to stay indoors and avoid travel, with numerous weather warnings in place. Scotland and the South of England’s electric grids have restored power to over 6,500 customers who lost supply early this morning, but around 2,600 are still without electricity.
Storm Eowyn has forced the closure of hundreds of schools, particularly in Northern Ireland, where all schools are shut. Glasgow and Edinburgh have also closed their doors, along with dozens of schools in Northumberland, Cumberland, and north-west Wales.
Train services have been suspended in several cities as high winds continue to pose a risk to safety. The storm’s impact is expected to worsen throughout the day.
