Albanian MP Jorida Tabaku has criticized the sharp rise in consumer prices, blaming high taxes, monopolies, and corruption for putting increasing pressure on households. With costs up 60% over the past 12 years, she calls for urgent reforms to ease the burden on citizens ahead of the upcoming elections.
Democrat MP, Jorida Tabaku has raised concerns over the sharp rise in consumer prices. According to Tabaku, prices for basic goods have increased by 60% over the past 12 years, while wages and pensions have remained unchanged.
In a recent social media post, Tabaku stated that these rising costs have made it increasingly difficult for families to meet their daily needs. “The economic strain is unbearable for many Albanians,” she wrote.
Tabaku pointed to three main factors contributing to the situation: high taxes, monopolies that prevent fair competition, and widespread corruption. She argued that these issues have created a system that benefits a few, leaving ordinary people to face the consequences.
To address these problems, Tabaku called for significant reforms, including a fairer tax system, more open competition, and measures to fight corruption. “We need an economic model that works for everyone, not just a select few,” she said.
Looking ahead to the May 2025 elections, Tabaku said she’s hopeful that the political changes could bring the reforms needed to improve the lives of Albanian citizens.
