A huge fire erupted at a Rosneft oil refinery in Riazan after Ukraine launched a major drone attack on Friday. This was Ukraine’s largest drone strike of the year, hitting over ten regions across Russia, including Moscow.
Witnesses and verified videos show massive flames at the refinery, with people seen running from the industrial area. Fires were also reported near the Novo-Riazan power station.
While no casualties have been confirmed, Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed to have destroyed over 120 Ukrainian drones across the country. Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, reported that six drones were shot down over the capital, with others falling in surrounding areas, including Shchyolkovo and Kolomna. Fortunately, there were no major damages, but the attack caused significant air traffic disruptions, temporarily halting operations at three major Moscow airports.
In the Bryansk region, 37 drones were downed, while other regions such as Kursk and Saratov saw 17 drones intercepted. Temporary flight restrictions were imposed in cities like Kazan, Samara, and Saratov due to ongoing drone threats.
The attack came as Russian airstrikes targeted Ukrainian cities. In Kyiv, three civilians were killed, and several residential areas, including Fastiv and Brovari, were heavily damaged.
Ukraine and international organizations have condemned Russia’s attacks on civilian infrastructure, calling them war crimes, as the use of drones, rockets, and artillery by Russia intensifies.
