Kosovo’s top leaders are calling for tougher defenses and closer NATO ties to tackle growing hybrid threats. Speaking at a defense conference, President Vjosa Osmani said strengthening the country’s defense forces is vital for both security and NATO membership.
“We must ramp up our defenses, and joining NATO is crucial for our future,” Osmani stated.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti backed her comments, stressing that Kosovo is committed to boosting regional stability. “This is a national duty, and we’re not just looking for benefits—we want to contribute to NATO too,” Kurti said.
NATO’s Christian Naërat added that Kosovo’s citizens must play a bigger role in the country’s resilience. “Government must treat citizens as key players in preparing for and reacting to threats,” Naërat said.
Kosovo’s Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci also highlighted the ongoing development of the Kosovo Security Force, with strong partnerships across sectors vital to ensuring national stability. The conference also focused on safeguarding key infrastructure and economic growth.
