Kosovo’s trade with Albania surged in 2024, with imports of fruits, construction materials, and energy surpassing €302 million in just 11 months, customs data reveals.
Kosovo’s imports from Albania soared in 2024, surpassing €302 million between January and November, according to customs data. The increase cements Albania’s position as one of Kosovo’s top five trading partners.
Fresh produce made up a large portion of imports, with tomatoes alone worth €3.3 million. Peppers and watermelons followed closely, each valued at over €3 million. Mandarins, a popular fruit during the festive season, were also imported, though precise figures were not provided.
Trade briefly hit a snag in December when the EU blocked several Albanian mandarin shipments over pesticide concerns. Kosovo halted six shipments but cleared them for sale after confirming their safety through testing.
The construction sector also benefited from Albanian imports, with white cement valued at €37 million. Energy was another key item, with electricity imports amounting to €62.7 million.
The increase in imports highlights Albania’s expanding contribution to Kosovo’s supply chain, driven by demand for fresh produce, construction materials, and energy. This trend reflects a deepening interdependence between the two economies.
