A Greek court has ordered an Albanian man to pay €905,000 to the family of Eleni Topaloudi, a student who was raped and murdered on the island of Rhodes in 2018.
Aleksander Luca, along with Greek man Manolis Koukouras, attacked the 21-year-old before throwing her off a cliff while she was still alive. The crime shocked Greece and led to protests across the country.
The two men were sentenced to life in prison in 2022. Now, Luca has been ordered to pay the large sum for the suffering caused to Topaloudi’s family.
Her relatives filed a lawsuit, blaming the families of the killers for not properly supervising their children. The court’s ruling applies only to Luca because the case against Koukouras was not filed correctly.
