Bardh Spahia, the former mayor of Shkodër, is facing charges of abuse of office, the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) revealed on Tuesday.
Spahia appeared at SPAK headquarters, where he was formally accused of misusing his authority during his tenure as mayor. The allegations stem from a 2022 complaint by Mark Molla, the former director of Shkodër’s Water Supply and Sewerage company. Molla claimed he was unlawfully dismissed and replaced by a member of the Democratic Party’s youth wing.
Spahia took office in March 2022 after winning the local elections as a Democratic Party candidate. His term ended in 2023 following municipal elections.
This case marks yet another high-profile investigation by SPAK into alleged misconduct by public officials.
