In a New Year’s message, Albania’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, confirmed that electricity prices will be reduced for all Albanians in 2025. This follows significant improvements in the country’s energy sector, with companies managing to turn around their financial and technical performance.
Balluku explained that 2024 had been a landmark year for Albania’s energy sector. “For the first time, our companies have managed to achieve positive balances, well-managed from both a technical and financial perspective,” she said. This progress, she added, has led to better energy distribution and transmission conditions, setting the stage for the anticipated price reduction.
Another key factor in the decision to reduce electricity costs is a substantial reduction in energy losses within the electrical grid. The minister revealed that technical losses have been reduced to 17.93%, which has generated additional revenue for energy companies and made the price reduction possible.
Balluku also praised the work of staff at the country’s energy operators, who managed to meet unprecedented energy demands over the summer. The combined improvements in efficiency and management have enabled Albania to stabilize its energy finances and lower prices for consumers.
The final decision on the reduction of electricity prices will be made by the Energy Regulatory Authority after the Electricity Distribution Operator submits an official application.
