Albania’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has taken significant steps in preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections in May 2025. During its latest meeting, the CEC approved crucial decisions, including the finalisation of candidate lists and election monitoring strategies.
The commission has confirmed that 140 seats will be contested in the Albanian parliament, with the largest number (37) in the capital, Tirana, and the smallest (3) in Kukës. Political parties will submit lists of candidates with set rankings, allowing voters to choose their preferred candidates.
Other decisions included approval of documentation for polling centre commissions, the creation of monitoring structures, and deadlines for publishing candidate lists. The new measures also ensure that for the first time, Albanian citizens living abroad will have the opportunity to vote.
