Albania is planning a significant increase in public investments for 2025, with a budget of 161.8 billion lek, which is 6.2% of the country’s GDP. This includes funding for the ongoing recovery from the 2019 earthquake and projects aimed at boosting growth and development in areas like infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Compared to the revised budget for 2024, public investment will increase by about 11 billion lek, reflecting the government’s focus on both short-term recovery and long-term progress.
Education and healthcare see major boosts
In 2025, the government will allocate 85.3 billion lek to education, which is about 3.3% of Albania’s GDP. This will help improve schools and educational programs across the country.
Healthcare is also a top priority, with 76.3 billion lek planned for 2025. This will support efforts to treat chronic diseases, offer free medicines, and expand medical services, including a focus on post-Covid recovery.
Social protection to support citizens
The budget will allocate 248.1 billion lek to social protection, which is roughly 9.5% of the GDP. This funding will go towards helping vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and families in need.
Infrastructure investments continue
Albania’s infrastructure is set for continued growth, with important projects like road upgrades and water system improvements. The government plans to invest in expanding key highways, such as the Tirana-Durrës route, and improving the country’s railway system. The goal is to improve connections and make sure the country is prepared for future development.
Defense funding remains strong
Albania is also keeping its defense budget at 2% of GDP, in line with its NATO commitments. The Ministry of Defense will receive 52.4 billion lek in 2025, an increase of 2.2 billion lek compared to the revised 2024 plan.
A long-term investment in Albania’s future
With this 2025 budget, Albania is looking to build a stronger and more resilient economy. By investing in key areas like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, the government hopes to lay the groundwork for future growth and a higher quality of life for its citizens.
