Albania and Montenegro are on track to join the European Union, with both countries expected to complete their screening processes in the next few years.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos confirmed in a European Parliament debate that Montenegro could finish by 2026, while Albania may wrap up by 2027.
Kos said both nations will need continued EU support, but the real work lies in fulfilling the EU’s strict requirements. “Success will depend on meeting these obligations,” she said, adding that the process is a joint effort for governments and opposition alike.
Kos will visit Montenegro later this week and is set to travel to Albania in February to review their progress.
