Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sat down with French President Emmanuel Macron and US President-elect Donald Trump in Paris today for a high-stakes meeting about Ukraine’s path to peace.
The talks, held at the Elysee Palace, were focused on the ongoing war and Ukraine’s future. Zelensky thanked Trump for his support and Macron for organizing the summit. “The US, Ukraine, and France. Together on this historic day for peace and security,” Macron said on social media after the meeting.
Trump, in his first international engagement since winning the election, remarked, “It seems like the world is a little crazy right now, and we’re going to talk about that.”
Zelensky arrived in Paris earlier today, aiming to strengthen international backing for Ukraine amid its ongoing struggle against Russian forces. His visit coincided with the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, a symbol of French resilience following its 2019 fire.
Trump has been critical of the US’s financial aid to Ukraine but has also claimed he could end the war “within 24 hours” if he returns to the White House.
Meanwhile, Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine received a second batch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark, bolstering its military efforts.
The meeting comes as global leaders continue to push for peace in a war that shows no sign of ending soon.
