Prime Minister Edi Rama has clarified the decision to ban TikTok in Albania for one year, stating it was prompted by overwhelming parental concerns about children’s safety. The move follows consultations involving 65,000 parents, where over 90% supported blocking the platform.
Rama explained that the ban, starting early next year, aims to protect young users while allowing time to explore technological solutions and assess global approaches to social media regulation. “TikTok will not operate in Albania during this period,” he said, emphasising the need for stricter oversight.
The decision has sparked international attention, positioning Albania at the forefront of the debate on balancing digital freedoms with child protection
