Serbia’s top general has promised to protect Serbs in Kosovo, insisting the military is ready to act if needed—but prefers diplomacy over conflict.
General Milan Mojsilovic said Serbia would not allow a repeat of Croatia’s infamous “Operation Storm” in Kosovo. Speaking to Novosti, he declared: “The Serbian army has the capacity to protect Serbs and other non-Albanian communities.”
Watching every move
The general stressed the military is monitoring threats and is prepared to respond to “all security risks.”
In line with UN agreements, Serbia recognises KFOR—the NATO-led peacekeepers—as the only legitimate armed force in Kosovo. Mojsilovi? praised ongoing cooperation with KFOR, saying it helps “reduce tensions and prevent crises from escalating.”
Protecting heritage
The general also demanded that international forces safeguard Serbian cultural and religious sites in Kosovo. He applauded KFOR’s recent decision to block Kosovo Security Force (KSF) units from moving into northern areas, following an explosion at the Ibër-Lepenc canal.
“This was a serious incident,” he warned, calling for a full investigation and accountability.
Neutral but firm
Mojsilovic reiterated Serbia’s commitment to military neutrality but said partnerships with both Eastern and Western nations were key to maintaining stability.
“There’s global understanding of our position,” he added.
Rising tensions
The comments come as tensions between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo continue to simmer. Serbia’s army is keeping a close eye on developments, with Mojsilovic insisting they’ll be ready for anything.
