Kosovo woke up to a series of arrests today as the Special Court carried out several operations across the country.
Among those detained were former Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) head Bashkim Smakaj and former Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuçi. Also arrested were Isni Kilaj, the former Mayor of Malishevë, and Fadil Fazliu, the brother of national heroes Fahri and Bahri Fazliu.
Faton Klinaku, acting head of the Kosovo Liberation Army Veterans’ Organization (OVL-UÇK), confirmed the arrests to Telegraf, stating that the individuals were taken into custody in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The Office of the Specialist Prosecutor (ZPS) has confirmed that the operations are part of a broader investigation into criminal offenses related to the administration of justice. These operations have been authorized by the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo (DHSK) and are being supported by the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX).
The investigation is expected to continue, with further developments likely in the coming days.
