Kosovo and Albania have successfully broken up a major arms trafficking network, arresting several individuals after an investigation that lasted over nine months.
The joint operation, called “Disassembly,” was carried out on December 10. Kosovo Police, under the direction of the country’s Special Prosecution, conducted searches at nine locations across the country. The operation resulted in the seizure of firearms and ammunition of various models.
The investigation revealed the group had been trafficking weapons and narcotics between Kosovo and Albania. Authorities arrested eight people in total—six from Kosovo and two from Albania. Albanian Police also arrested an additional 10 people, six of whom were detained during the final stages of the operation.
In total, 64 firearms and combat ammunition were confiscated, including 23 weapons seized in Albania and 41 in Kosovo.
The operation, which was supported by international agencies like EUROPOL and EUROJUST, shows the strength of cross-border cooperation in tackling organised crime in the region.
