French Prime Minister Michel Barnier has been ousted by a vote of no confidence, just three months into his leadership.
Barnier’s fragile government collapsed after lawmakers from both the left and right joined forces to vote against him, following his attempt to finalize a section of the government’s annual budget on Monday.
This marks the first time since 1962 that a French government has been defeated in a no-confidence motion, making Barnier the shortest-serving prime minister in French history. The swift downfall of the centrist leader has deepened political instability in the country, with uncertainty surrounding the next steps for the government.
