The European Union is Albania’s biggest financial backer, pouring over €500 million into the country between 2021 and 2024.
Recent EU figures show that €80 million from the Energy Support Package is driving improvements in the country’s energy sector. Meanwhile, more than €30 million has gone into projects for environmental protection and a more sustainable, inclusive economy.
The EU also earmarked €115 million for rebuilding schools and cultural sites damaged by the 2019 earthquake.
Since 2020, the EU has mobilized €1.4 billion for Albania, with €600 million coming in grants alone. The money is funding renewable energy projects, rehabilitating 185 railway lines, and upgrading water and sewage systems for almost 1 million people.
The European Union’s support is part of its broader push to bring the Western Balkans closer to the EU single market.
