Albania’s opposition leader, Sali Berisha, has vowed to fight corruption and raise wages if his Democratic Party wins the 2025 elections.
(TIR-FAX) – Albania’s opposition leader, Sali Berisha, has promised major reforms and tougher action against corruption if his Democratic Party wins the 2025 elections.
Speaking to supporters in Tirana, Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government of stealing billions of euros over the past decade. He highlighted the Tirana incinerator project as an example, claiming the costs were inflated by ten times to allow funds to be siphoned off.
“The dissatisfaction with this government knows no limits,” Berisha said. “Wherever you look, it’s theft.” He also alleged that lucrative government contracts are often awarded to relatives of senior officials.
Berisha described his party as Albania’s “last hope” and pledged to introduce economic measures to help citizens. These include €200 payments for every citizen, raising the minimum wage to €500, and increasing the average salary to €1,200.
He also promised to refund VAT on basic foods for low-income citizens and provide pensioners with a consumer card to ease the cost of living. Tourism policies would also be reviewed, with Berisha saying citizens are paying for tourism infrastructure without seeing enough benefits.
The opposition leader ended his speech with confidence, predicting a victory in next year’s election. “2025 will be the year of change, the year of hope for every Albanian,” he said.
