Albania’s banking sector is in strong health, with solid liquidity, capitalization, and profitability, according to the Bank of Albania.
The head of the Albanian central bank Gent Sejko shared the positive news today, highlighting that the sector not only safeguards Albanian families’ savings but also plays a crucial role in supporting the economy by providing essential funds for consumption and investment.
In a video message posted on social media, Sejko stressed the importance of the sector’s positive performance in 2024. “We’re talking about financial stability, secure deposits for citizens and businesses,” he said.
He also confirmed that Albanian banks are well-capitalized, with capital adequacy ratios surpassing the 20% mark. “Banks are growing their capital from profits, which shows a very healthy banking environment, alongside strong liquidity and double-digit credit growth,” Sejko added.
Lending has also surged in 2024, with the fastest growth in the past decade, reaching an impressive annual increase of nearly 17%.
