Opposition parties in Albania held a protest in Tirana on Monday evening, blocking five key roads in the capital. Led by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the demonstration called for the establishment of a caretaker government to ensure free and fair elections.
The protest, which followed Berisha’s release from house arrest, led to clashes between demonstrators and police. Officers attempted to clear the blocked roads to allow traffic, while the protesters remained firm in their demands.
Speaking after the protest, Berisha reaffirmed the opposition’s commitment to continue their demonstrations until Prime Minister Edi Rama agrees to form a caretaker government to oversee the parliamentary elections scheduled for May 11, 2025.
The opposition insists that a neutral government is crucial to safeguard the transparency and integrity of the elections. As the May election date draws closer, the political situation in Albania remains tense, with both the government and opposition preparing for a highly anticipated political contest.
