Albania has launched a major EU-backed economic growth plan, designed to boost development and ensure transparency as the country pushes towards EU membership by 2030.
(TIR-FAX) – Albania has officially rolled out its long-awaited Economic Growth Plan, a key initiative backed by the European Union, as part of its strategy to secure EU membership by 2030.
The plan, which aims to boost economic development, includes the activation of a fund monitoring mechanism to ensure transparency in the management of EU financial aid. Dutch Ambassador to Albania, Reinout Vos, stressed the importance of independent monitoring, saying that in addition to official reports, Albania would also support shadow reporting, prepared by experts, to ensure accountability.
Krisela Hackaj, a key figure in Albania’s EU integration, described the plan as essential for the country’s preparations for future membership obligations under the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework. She emphasized that it would help Albania meet the criteria needed for successful integration.
Eduard Shalsi, Chairman of Albania’s Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance, laid out the country’s commitments to the plan. He said that in order to improve parliamentary oversight of reforms, Albania’s parliamentary structures will be restructured and strengthened. This move is seen as crucial to ensuring the country is on track for EU membership by 2030.
In October 2024, the European Commission approved Albania’s Reform Agenda, which includes 31 reforms and investments, supported by a funding package of 922 million euros. These efforts are aimed at ensuring Albania meets the necessary EU membership criteria.
