Prime Minister Edi Rama has reaffirmed the Albanian government’s committment to improving the lives of pensioners in a recent podcast, where he outlined plans for significant improvements to their benefits.
In the episode of “We Talk,” Rama announced that the government intends to increase pensions and boost year-end bonuses. He also mentioned plans for dedicated pedestrian pathways on major roads, aimed at making life easier for retirees who have spent their working years contributing to the country.
“Our government has formalized 300,000 pensioners since we took office in 2013. While we’ve made strides, there’s still much more to accomplish,” Rama stated. He acknowledged that, despite recent improvements, pensions remain low compared to overall economic growth, though he emphasized that they have risen significantly since the previous administration.
The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of employers correctly paying health contributions, as these are essential for funding pensions. He expressed confidence that new initiatives involving fiscalization and artificial intelligence will help ensure compliance among businesses. “We don’t want to overload businesses with excessive checks; we view them as crucial partners,” he explained, calling for fairness in the payment of employee contributions.
Rama’s renewed focus on pensioners comes amid growing public demand for increased government support for vulnerable populations. As these initiatives move forward, he urged everyone to contribute to strengthening the social safety net for the elderly.
