November 1, 2024 –November 1, 2024 – Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has condemned a recent murder in Shkodër that resulted in three victims, including a woman who was riding a motorcycle with her husband when they were struck by a car that swerved off the road. Her husband remains in serious condition. Speaking on the television program “Opinion,” Rama described the incident as a “tragedy” but stressed that crime rates have significantly declined during his time in office.
“This year marks the lowest number of murders since I took power,” Rama said. He said Albania has experienced a notable reduction in homicides, dropping from 150 annual murders to the lowest figures in years. “When I took office, there were an average of three murders a day,” he added.
Rama also addressed concerns about encrypted communications among politicians and criminal figures, asserting that it is up to law enforcement to investigate the validity of these claims. “The stories surrounding EncroChat and SKY ECC should be handled by the authorities. Until proven otherwise, we cannot draw conclusions based on these messages,” he explained.
