OSCE Ambassador Michael Tarhan has expressed his deep shock and concern over the tragic killing of a 14-year-old student in a Tirana school on Monday, stressing that ensuring safety is a collective responsibility that starts with the family and school, and extends to society at large.
Speaking in Elbasan on International Children’s Day, Tarhan marked the conclusion of a project aimed at combating small arms, but his comments were overshadowed by the recent tragedy that has deeply affected the country.
“The issue of firearms is not confined to Albania, but the situation here is particularly alarming. The tragic incident of yesterday has shaken us all,” he said.
Tarhan emphasized the need for a unified approach to prevent such incidents, stating, “Security is not just a matter for the police. It’s something that involves all of us—from the family, to the school, to the wider community. We all have a role to play.”
