Albania’s opposition has called for a large-scale protest in the capital today, with plans to block key roads and disrupt traffic across the city. The demonstration, which will begin at 5 p.m. local time, is intended to challenge the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The protest, organized by the Democratic Party (DP), will be led by senior party members, including lawmakers, who are pushing back against what they describe as an administration tied to corruption and organized crime. While party leader Sali Berisha has rejected violence, he emphasized that the opposition will continue its campaign through civil disobedience.
“We are not advocating for violence or guerrilla warfare,” Berisha said. “This is a fight for peaceful resistance, and today we stand for civil disobedience as the path to change.”
Flamur Noka, a prominent opposition figure, called on citizens to join the protest and take a stand against the government. “It’s time for the people to speak and take back control,” Noka said. “Tomorrow, at 5 p.m., we will fill the streets of Tirana.”
The protest marks a continued push by the opposition to challenge the ruling government, with further demonstrations expected if their demands are not met.
