Oct 25, 2024 – Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku has expressed strong criticism of the Albanian government’s latest outreach campaign aimed at pensioners, labeling it a mere political show. In a social media post, she described the initiative as the “next show” orchestrated by the ruling socialist majority.
Tabaku characterized the campaign as a “remote-controlled circus,” claiming it exploits 780,000 pensioners for political gain while ignoring the realities of the national budget. She pointed out that the budget approved in September clearly revealed the government’s priorities, stating that while 73 million euros were allocated for concessions and public-private partnerships (PPPs) this year, pensioners received significantly less—five times less than what was given to wealthy oligarchs.
“This is a government that represents a minority, which does not listen to the voices of its citizens,” Tabaku asserted, calling for a more equitable approach towards pensioners and citizens alike. She urged politicians to prioritize actions over empty rhetoric, emphasizing that the recent budget adjustments did not reflect the needs of the elderly population.
