Oct 29, 2024 – Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced a wage increase for all public sector employees effective January 2025. Instead of increasing how much each salary is worth, the government will use more factors to calculate wages, which will raise salaries for public sector workers
Currently, one salary unit is valued at 110 euros. Starting in January, the number of salary units will increase by 0.5, with another 0.5 increase in July, resulting in a total increase of one unit for the year. Public sector employees will see their monthly wages rise by 55 euros in January, followed by another 55 euros in July.
Teachers, police officers, and soldiers will benefit from wage increases of approximately 18-20%, while higher managerial positions will see increases of 5-7%.
Prime Minister Kurti has called on the opposition to support the passage of next year’s budget in Parliament, as several MPs from the Vetëvendosje Movement have left in recent weeks, making the multietnic political group crucial for maintaining a quorum.
