Kosovo and Albania are renewing efforts to implement more than 100 agreements signed between the two countries, many of which have been forgotten. Business leaders from both nations are urging their governments to act quickly to boost economic ties and increase trade.
The Kosovo Business Alliance (AKB) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tirana held a meeting focused on expanding the joint market between the two countries. Agim Shahini, head of the AKB, said the agreements must be revisited to strengthen economic cooperation.
“We need to support local producers and increase consumption of domestic goods in Kosovo and Albania,” Shahini said.
Nikolin Jaka, head of the Tirana Chamber of Commerce, agreed, saying trade between the two nations is not at the level it should be. “We need to address the barriers that are slowing trade, including tariffs and other obstacles,” Jaka said.
More than 600 Kosovan businesses operate in Albania, but trade volumes remain low compared to other markets in the region. Jaka also noted Albania’s position in the EU accession process, saying it should assist Kosovo in aligning with European standards.
